He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that had been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is continuing his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Bumerton sees all

Lonnie Sharkey annexed his record 105th Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association championship on March 22 when he won the James and Associate Open held at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles.

Sharkey, who has been the best bowler in Kitsap County before you were almost born Big Dawg, and that was over a 100 years ago, led from start to finish. He knocked off Brian Irwin 244-22 in the TV Finale to win his championship. Larry Dodd defeated Carol Andrews 200-188 to win the KSBO’s Peninsula Bottling for the 205 and Under Division title. … KSBO will hold its last tournament of the season this Saturday. It’s called the Non-Champ/ Champs event and is sponsored by Don Holtz Realtor and Talbot Excavating. The final act of the tournament will pit the Non-Champs winner against the Champs winner for the King of the Hill title. … I was amused, Big Dawg, to discover you were 4th in the Seattle Times basketball bracket and 63rd in the Times’ national basketball bracket after the first round. There were over 72,000 entered in the national bracket. Then you took a big swoon, just as you always do. That thrilled me to no end. That means you have to fill up the Green Hornet’s gas tank, especially now that the corporate crooks are raising the price of gas faster than the weeds grow in your so-called lawn. … You know what amuses me even more, Big Dawg? There doesn’t seem to be an optimism for those Marinaros of yours coming out of Spring Training. There usually is a little glimmer of hope forecast by writers who cover the team, but not this year. Maybe they are finally getting the message that the franchise is badly run on the baseball side. What will be extremely funny is if those Marinaros of yours turn out to be pretty good. Wouldn’t that be something? Nah, that’s too unbelievable. Go get me a tall latte before I start to believe.

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action for…

[2,16

post-1160","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-bumerton","category-top-stories
["GET
