He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that had been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is continuing his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Bumerton sees all

Hey, Big Dawg, the BremertonParks and Recreation Department under the slick guidance of former Olympic High Basketball star Scott Evens has put together a unique slowpitch softball program for women. Scott may even grandfather you in so you can play, although it might be a bit embarrassing – for the women ‑ to see you flounder out there at PendergastRegionalPark’s softball diamonds. The program starts today (June 12) and runs through July 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Pendergast. This is a free program and is held every Thursday through July 10. There will be instruction and practice followed by a scrimmage. Instruction is being provided by one of the writers for this rag of yours, Kitty Campagna, and other women’s league players. This program is designed for new and experienced players’ ages 16 and older. This is a blatant attempt to increase the numbers in the women’s league, but it’s a good one so it’s all good. For additional information contact Scott at 360-473-5427. … Dean Scherer is on the move again. The former BainbridgeHigh School boy’s basketball coach who is living at LakeLandVillage in Allyn will be at his old school Monday (June 16) so the current Bainbridge coach, Scott Orness, can honor him at halftime of a game between the current high school team and the 2007 Bainbridge team led by Steven Gray. The game, a fundraiser, will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Paski Gymnasium. If you know any former Scherer player who would like to be there, get on the horn Big Dawg and call the game to their attention. I know Clay Moyle, who also writes for this rag, will be there. He played for Scherer, a Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame member as well as a member of the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action for…

[2

post-1246","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bumerton
["GET
