Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to find something disturbing in the news these days. There seems to be conflict everywhere. There were even bodies raining down in Ukraine.

What really grabbed me this time was the flow of children from Central America to our borders and the thought that we are turning them back to face, most likely, forced labor for drug cartels, torture and death.

What happened to us? Aren’t we are a melting pot for all kinds of newcomers? Isn’t that the way this country was built? So now we decide, as Texas governor Rick Perry has .to send troops to the border to stop the flow of immigrants and prevent children who risk life to get here from staying.

We are becoming an ugly nation. We don’t have the heart to really stop Putin from devouring a neighboring country (who will be next on his list?) and we reject anybody who is different than we are just because, well, just because.

We send our best guy – John Kerry – to stop the fighting in Gaza and he is unanimously rejected by leaders of Israel and so the slaughter goes on.

The bad guys are installing their terrible 14th century brand of governing on a stretch of captured land from Syria to Iraq and announce that Christians convert to Islam, pay a tax or be killed. Your option. Great, let me think about it for a while.

Some solutions:

Instead of passing legislation to stop the flow of immigrants, instead of sending troops or building fences in our southern border, let them come as immigrants did through Ellis Island and again make this the great melting pot, a place of safe haven for those who need it the most.

We sell ourselves as a nation of free people, so let’s back up those words. Immigration is now a bad word. My ancestors came from France in 1600 to the land of free. So instead of closing our border, we need to open it up. Let them all be free, free as a bird.

Stop slapping the dirty hands of Putin. He might get angry. We have offered him enough handshakes, now it’s time to give him our fist. Back up Ukraine with military assistance. What are we waiting for? Are we afraid to confront the evil-doer? C’mon. We are a super power. Time to use some of that power.

There will never be peace in the Middle East. Too much of a melting pot. Too much difference in cultures, in religion. The only hope is to limit the carnage when frictions erupt into battles. We could restrain Israel, but that’s not going to pacify Hamas, which wants the destruction of the Jewish state. So let Israel do its thing until its satisfied much of the current danger is eradicated. That danger will return as surely as spring follows winter because of the terrible differences. But unless we stop our support of Israel, this trend will continue on and on.

The reality of the Middle East is that there are too many flash points to keep them all under control. Someday, the whole region will go up in flames. Hopefully, I won’t be here then.

No matter how hard I try I can’t understand how anybody would want to go back to the stone age. That is what the Islamic fundamentalists bring to the table. Their brand of rule is simply not God-like, no matter what they insist. There is no justice in their rule and in their take-no-prisoner approach. They kill anybody who isn’t like them. It’s a miracle they thrive, although if dissent is a death penalty I guess it’s easy to rule with the use of fear and the sword. Especially the sword.

My approach to them is simple. It’s the same I do with sugar ants. Attract the ants with sugar and then drop a bomb on them.

Enough.

Be well pal.

Be careful out there.

Have a great day.

You are loved.

TERRY MOSHER I was listening to something the other night that really was disturbing.
