He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that had been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is continuing his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Big Dawg, do you think that maybe Richard Nixon from his grave pressured Pete Carroll to throw the ball? I wouldn’t put anything past Tricky Dick, who in 1972 in a NFL playoff game reportedly told Washington quarterback Billy Kilmer to use a double-reverse to wide receiver Roy Jefferson. The Redskins actually called that play in the game, and it went for a 13-yard loss. And the Redskins also lost the game, 24-20 to the 49ers. Both, Carroll’s play and Nixon’s play certainly were head scratchers. They were something you would have done. … I see, Big Dawg, where the local bowling fraternity, the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association, is about to start up again after taking some time off. And believe it or not the North Kitsap Babe Ruth season is about to throw out the first pitch. You can save $35 if you sign up before Feb. 20. You can register online at www.nkbaberuth.org. Cost is $145 per player and $200 for family before Feb. 20 and after Feb. 20 it’s $180 and $235. Birth certificates are required for all 13-year-olds and any new 14 or 15-year-old player to the program. Skill assessments are set for Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on March 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Snider Park in Poulsbo. All new players are required to attend at least one of the skill assessments. All others are encouraged to attend. A skill assessment make-up date is March 7. Volunteers are needed for the program. They are the backbone of the program. There will be a work party and scorekeeping class on March 28 at Snider Park. The work party starts at 8 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. The scorekeeping class starts at 1 p.m. and rolls on until 3 p.m. Further information contact president Tom Tucker (360) 516-3354. … I understand, Big Dawg that a group of North Kitsap football coaches went to the Super Bowl. Four of them went, but only two got in. Seems like two tickets that were purchased from a ticket service were bogus. Yes, Big Dawg, they got ripped off, just like you rip people off with your phony writing. So when they got there they flipped a coin to see who would go with the real tickets they got from Kirk Parrish, North Kitsap graduate who works for the Seachickens. The lucky winners were baseball and football coach Jeff Weible and Jared Prince. Weible, by the way, did all the driving form Poulsbo to Glendale, Arizona. It took 24 hours. Way to go Jeff!! I could have loaned them the Green Hornet and they would have made it in less time.

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action…

[16

post-1499","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-top-stories
["GET
