He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that had been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is continuing his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Bumerton sees all

The bowlers are it again Big Dawg. How come you don’t bowl? Oh, I forgot you are a terrible bowler, just like you are a terrible golfer. Let’s face it you don’t do anything well, although you sure have fooled your two readers all these years. But what the Sam Hill, Trump is fooling them so I guess you can too. Anyway, Big Dawg, 42 bowlers showed up for the start of the 43rd Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association (KSBO) season at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard for the Westbay Auto Open and the Tom Myers Sr. Memorial 205 and Under Division. Before they got started on the lanes, the 2014-15 season was capped with the annual awards given out. The KSBO All-Star team was announced as Nick Bachteler, Jeremy Ellis, Lonnie Sharkey (they had to include Sharkey. They will include him even if he doesn’t bowl because they figure he would have been good enough to make the team anyhow), Tom Jamrog and Mike VanWinkle. Bachteler was named the Bowler of the Year in the Open Division and Brandon VanWinkle was the Bowler of the Year in the 205 and Under Division. Ryan Council was named the Rookie of the Year. Then Jim Monahan, the general manger of All Star Lanes in Silverdale, presented the Tom Myers Inspirational Award to Leo Funari. Dean Richards, who finished in the fifth and final spot to the Westbay Auto Open TV Finale got on a roll and won the darn thing. Isn’t that something, Big Dawg? You couldn’t finish a five-yard walk. So Richards took care of Tim Clemens 248-225, then beat Louie Laaarini 245-162, Spencer Ludwig 257-205 and topped off his memorable run by defeating the top qualifier, Travis Darting 214-171 in the championship match to capture his fourth KSBO title. The second place qualifier in the 205 and Under Division, Doc Patterson, beat Steve Layton 204-161 and toppled the top qualifier, Preston Carson, 204-157 to earn his first KSBO title. The next KSBO tournament is this Saturday at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles. It is the Certified Hearing Open and the Peninsula Bottling 205 and Under Division. .. I see you got a little note from Bob Fredericks, who is like the Energizer Bunny: he keeps on tickin’ even though he graduated high school 68 years ago. Big Bob continues to run programs for the Kitsap Tennis & Athletic Center, a place he co-founded about a 100 years ago. I just thought about this, but Big Dawg you are about as old as Big Bob, although I don’t think you are tickin’ very much. Big Bob let you know that the annual Columbus Day Racquetball Tournament will be held Oc. 12-12 at the club. The deadline to enter is Oct. Entry blanks are at KTAB, 360 Disc Golf or by can be obtained by calling (360) 692-8075. There will be brackets for men and women singles and doubles at all levels of play. It will cost $18 for the first bracket you enter and $7 for the second. That’s about it Big Dawg, now you can go get me a tall latte.

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in…

[2

post-1971","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-bumerton
["GET
