It’s been 10 weeks today since Dave was admitted to Virginia Mason.\u00a0 He is still at Issaquah Nursing and Rehab and progress is very slow, if any.\u00a0 He is able to sit in a wheelchair but still cannot stand or walk.\u00a0\u00a0 He is still on the feeding tube as swallowing is still an issue.\u00a0 The wonderful therapists are doing their best in all areas but Dave is really not progressing.\u00a0 At this point, they don’t believe he will ever eat or walk on his own but they are not giving up.\u00a0 Dave tries very hard but tires so easily and will just fall into a deep sleep during therapy or while you are talking to him.\u00a0 His speech is getting a little better especially if he is sitting up.\u00a0 There are times I can almost understand every word and other times I can’t understand anything.\u00a0 It is very frustrating for Dave because he tries so hard.<\/p>\n

It just breaks my heart to see him like this and all I can do is hold him and tell him I love him.\u00a0 He is so miserable and just wants to come home but I think he is starting to understand that he probably never will.\u00a0 It’s a very hard decision but I feel I owe it to him to be honest, just not sure that I can.\u00a0 I had another patient care meeting with his therapists, social worker, case manager and nurse practitioner.\u00a0 My brother, Dale, who lives in Vancouver, WA also attended the meeting which I so appreciated.\u00a0 The prognosis is very grim.\u00a0 They do not feel Dave will ever walk out of there or get off the feeding tube.<\/p>\n

I know everyone is busy and have so many responsibilities but please don’t forget Dave.\u00a0 The only thing he has to look forward to are visits from family and friends.\u00a0 I know how hard it is to see him like this but whenever you can manage, please visit him.\u00a0 It’s the only thing we can do for him now and the only bright spot in his days.<\/p>\n

Thank you to all of my family and friends.\u00a0 Dave and I are so blessed to have such strong support from family and our amazing friends.\u00a0 I am so sad right now because my best friend, Marsha, who was a godsend during my illness and recovery and now through this horrible time with Dave, is moving back to Texas.\u00a0 They leave on Sunday or Monday and I’m going to miss my friend so much.\u00a0 I love you Marsha and thank you for your friendship, love and support.<\/p>\n
