TOP OF THE TOWN<\/strong> \u2013I was impressed with two things with the Washington Huskies smashing victory over BYU. One, I think everybody could see that quarterback Jacob Eason was brilliant in leading the team to its 45-10 win. He was sharp, on target and very poised.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t seen him like that yet, although most experts said it was coming. \u00a0So it came. Now we\u2019ll see how he holds up against an USC squad Saturday at Husky Stadium that may have found it\u2019s mojo after losing to BYU 30-27 in overtime. The Trojans ripped Utah 30-23. Utah is a team I figured in the pre-season had a chance to go unbeaten, based on its defense. I was wrong about the Utes, although I still believe they are going to be right there in the Pac-12 South race. The No. 2 thing about the Huskies is that their offensive line just overwhelmed BYU. It dominated the Cougars in fact. That OL supremacy allowed Eason to sand comfortably behind it and throws darts at the BYU secondary. I don\u2019t think he will feel the same comfort against an USC defensive front that is very impressive. The most impressive is freshman defensive tackle Drake Jackson, a 6-4, 275-pound wrecking ball. The Husky OL will have its hands full, that is for sure. The Trojans have very good receivers. I especially like 6-4, 220-pound Michael Pittman Jr. who already has 31 receptions for 437 yards and three touchdowns. \u00a0\u2026 You got to give credit to New Orleans coach Sean Payton for his game plan against the Seahawks. Playing without future Hall of Fame star Drew Brees, out with a thumb injury, he built a short passing game attack around backup QB Teddy Bridgewater and used the brutally punishing rushes of Alvin Kamara to embarrass the Seahawks defense. Kamara looked like the reincarnation of Marshawn Lynch. Even sure tackler Bobby Wagner could not bring Kamara down. I\u2019m a firm believer that sports\u2019 games are like life \u2013 there are ups and downs. The Seahawks went through a down game. Not much went right with what they were trying to do. And big breaks and big plays were on the Saints\u2019 side all game long. Expect the Seahawks to rebound this weekend and beat Arizona 35-27. \u2026 I\u2019m Surprised to learn that I\u2019m 49th<\/sup> out of 2593 in the annual Seattle Times Guest Guesser after three weeks. I had only 11 correct (out of 21) the first week and was buried deep in the pack. But somehow I rebounded. Maybe I should buy a Lottery ticket. \u2026 Central Kitsap\u2019s loss to Yelm last Friday was shocking to me. I had the Cougars as maybe the best high school team on the Olympic Peninsula. But maybe not. The Cougars will rebound this week and beat visiting Timberline, which was throttled 55-0 by No. 1 Tumwater in the first week. I am a little shaky on this next prediction. South Kitsap will get its second win by beating Emerald Ridge at Ed Fisher Stadium. But it will be close. Olympic will keep its share of the Olympic League lead by blitzing Kingston. Sequim will rebound from its loss to North Kitsap and beat North Mason and NK will defeat a gallant effort by Bremerton, Montesano will kill Port Angeles and Klahowya will defeat Chimacum. That\u2019s it for today.<\/p>\n
