TOP OF THE TOWN<\/strong> \u2013 Boy, there have been some big news today. The biggest for Seahawk fans is that the team picked up on waivers talented wide receiver Josh Gordon. This is big news for more than one reason. Gordon has a checkered past, which is the reason most likely that 27 other teams passed on him when New England released him from injured reserve with a \u201cminor injury designation.\u201d\u00a0 Gordon has been suspended for drug use multiple times since 2010 when Baylor suspended him indefinitely. He transferred to Utah, but never played for the Utes when he was kicked off the team for failing a drug test. He was out of the NFL in 2015 and 2016 while serving suspensions for violating the league\u2019s substance-abuse policy. He was suspended indefinitely last December for violating terms of his conditional reinstatement. That suspension was lifted in August, but then after playing in six games with the Patriots he was placed on injured reserve.\u00a0 Based on his history I would ask everybody in the Seattle area to hide their drugs. Personally I would not take a chance on a guy with this reputation, but then I\u2019m not Pete Carroll. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Gordon has 4,000 career receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in six NFL seasons. Seahawk players Jamar Taylor and Jacob Hollister both played with Gordon and speak highly of his character and his on-field talent, so we will see. If Gordon can stay straight he could provide a great big receiver for Russell Wilson to go with 6-3, 230-pound D.K. Metcalf.\u00a0 But, there is always a but with Gordon. \u2026 Golden State sucks this year. And the suck just got worse. Steph Curry is going to be out for three months after having surgery on a broken hand suffered Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns. You can kiss them off. \u2026 Washington got good news today (Friday) when point guard Quade Green was declared eligible to play. The six-foot Green transferred from Kentucky in the 2018-19 season and Friday\u2019s decision granted him a waiver to play immediately.\u00a0 He will likely be the starter when the Huskies clash with Baylor at the Armed Forces Classic in Anchorage, AK on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Green was a McDonald\u2019s All-American that helped his Maryland high school, Goretti, win four state titles. I would guess the starting lineup against Baylor, which is ranked 16th<\/sup> in the AP preseason poll and 18th<\/sup> in the Coaches Poll, would be Green. 6-6 Jamal Bey at the No. 2 guard, 6-6 \u00a0Nahziah Carter at No. 3 and two true freshman, 6-9 Jaden McDaniels and 6-9 Isaiah Stewart inside. To say the Huskies will be tall with length would be to understate it. The Huskies still have 7-foot Bryan Penn-Johnson, 6-11Sam Timmins, 6-9 Hameir Wright, 6-10 Nate Roberts and 6-5 RaeQuan Battle lurking on the bench. \u2026 The Mets are set to hire Carlos Beltran as its next manager. \u2026 The Denver Broncos put Joe Flacco on injured reserve with a neck injury, ending his first season with the Broncos. Brett Rypien, the nephew of Mark Rypien and Chris Tormey, a former football assistant with Don James at Washington, has been moved from the practice squad to be the backup quarterback with the Broncos. Rypien, who played at Shadle Park High School in Spokane and at Boise State, will backup Brandon Allen. Okay, that is it for today.<\/p>\n
