Or White versus Black. When Tom Brady put on a MAGA cap the debate was on. Brady is apparently a Trump guy and Patrick Mahomes is supposed to be a Biden guy This country is getting bad with its divisiveness but this is carrying it a little too far. So maybe if fans are allowed in to watch the Super Bowl they should be divided into two groups, right-wingers and left-wingers only. What is wrong with us? I care that somebody like Brady is a Trump supporters because of my feelings toward the former President, but hey Brady may go down as the best pro quarterback in history so you can’t deny him that. But censoring him or disliking him for his political views is not right in the context of sports. To be honest, though, I will root against him. I thought he would lead Tampa past Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, although I wanted the Packers to win. So now I guess I have to root against Brady, but I will do it more so because he is too perfect, too good, and I like the improvisational ability of Mahomes. But even more I like Mahomes and the Chiefs too because they have a couple very quick guys in Tyreek Hill and Mecole Hardman, and tight end Travis Kelce. Hill is unbelievable. He is quick like that fly that keeps trying to get in your soup and try as hard as you might you can’t seem to catch it. That’s Hill. He has the ability to stop on a dime and move in a different direction and do it as quick as that pesky fly. I’ll take the Chiefs to win 35-27. … I was thinking the other day about where Russell Wilson should be ranked among current pro quarterbacks. There has been some discussion of late that Wilson may have lost some of his ability this season and even suggestions that the Seahawks should trade him for Deshaun Watson of the Texans. I don’t think that ever is going to happen, but it spurred me to think where Wilson ranks. I would put Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers, Drew Brees, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson in the top six. They would be followed by Phillip Rivers, Kyler Murray, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Baker Mayfield, Kirk Cousins, Andy Dalton, Matthew Stafford, Jared Goff and Justin Herbert. Wilson should be in this second group. On a good day he might lead it, meaning he would rank seventh among all QBs. Realistically, Wilson is no higher than seventh. Some times he’s 17th as he was in the middle of this past season. Wilson has slipped some in his ability to escape a good pass rush and make things happen. He’s not as quick as he once was. He used to be Houdini, but now he’s Houdini’s assistant. I am with many others who believe his off-the-field endeavors have hurt his on-field performances. … Are you like me and smile that Conor McGregor got his lunch handed to him the other night? Dustin Poirier stunned McGregor with a second-round TKO. It gained Poirier revenge for being knocked out six years ago by McGregor. My wife is right. How can you watch this UFC stuff? I enjoy watching it because maybe I’m nuts. It’s a basic human instinct we are seeing when we watch these fighters wrestle each other and beat each other with their fists and feet, and unlike boxing, they can hammer a fallen foe until the referee steps in to stop it. It’s really disgusting. Horrible. But I’m fascinated by what kind of guy, or woman, wants to do this. Some of these guys like it. I don’t understand that part of it. I know I did a little fighting and boxing and I didn’t enjoy being hit. It was thrilling to knock somebody down, but not so thrilling to be knocked down. I literally hate wrestling, although I covered it for years for the Sun. I will tell this story to illustrate my dislike for it. I had a close high school friend who was about a foot shorter than me, weighed 30 pounds less and took me down with some wrestling moves and I was in a panic. I don’t like to be held down. I couldn’t get up. He had a tight wrap on me. Finally, he let me up. I then said to him, “Okay, now we are going to box.” He took off running. I discovered he also was faster than me. That’s it for today.
