If Joe Burrow had gotten the throw off Chase would have walked into the end zone. We all know what happened, though. Some guy named Aaron Donald broke through and dragged Burrow down. Burrow managed to get rid of the ball for an incompletion and as he fell to the ground the Rams started to celebrate a Super Bowl victory. It was a great game and the better team won. The Bengals’ main weakness was their offensive line, and that showed up in the second half dominated by the Rams as they sacked Burrow a Super Bowl-tying record seven times, six in the second half. … LeBron James’ attempt to load up for a NBA title run by the Lakers has failed. He needed a third superstar to roll their way to another championship so he lobbied to bring in Russell Westbrook, a former Sonic top draft pick. Westbrook, who TV sports shock jock Skip Bayless (Skip and Shannon: Undisputed) calls Westbrick for his shooting ineptitude, was supposed to be the final key to a title. For once in his glorious career, though, James made a mistake. Westbrook is not a good team player. He doesn’t make people around him better. His game is to race up and down the court, using his quickness to outrun defenders. But he’s lost some of that quickness and because he is a bricklayer from distance, he is not a good fit for the Lakers. And because Anthony Davis is a moody player who is inconsistent in his effort, and little hurt’s here and there stop him from playing up to his potential, he is not the godsend LeBron had hoped he would be. On top of all of that, LeBron is slowing down with age and can’t carry the Lakers night after night the way he used to carry the Cavaliers and the Heat, and the Lakers at one time. He can still put it all together for a particular game, but not game after game like he once did. … The Nets 11-game losing streak is history. Seth Curry made his debut with the Nets a good one, scoring a team-high 23 points to spark a victory, 109-85 over the Kings. The Nets have not had Kevin Durant since Jan. 15 when he suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee. He’s started to work out but there is no timetable for his return. He’s missed 15 games and the Nets have fallen out of contention without Durant and would miss the playoffs if they were played today. It’s a sad story for the Brooklyn team that two years ago was supposed to be this super team that could not be beat. Yet they were taken down by Milwaukee as it won the NBA championship. What is clearly evident if it wasn’t already is Durant is the most valuable player in the league. I shouldn’t use this analogy, but I will anyway. The Nets without Durant is my late sister Minerva without a ventilator. In the last days of her life 11 years ago Minerva was on a ventilator to keep her alive. When they would take her off of it, her vital signs would plunge like a plane nose-diving to the ground. That’s the Nets minus Durant. He should be back soon and when he does come back the Nets have a lot of climbing to do. They may do it and be a contender for a title because of one guy ‑ Durant. … I don’t think the NFL should hire more black coaches just because black players are the majority in the league. That doesn’t make sense to me that you hire based on color. If I could be sure hiring is based on character and knowledge and is blind to color that is what I would want. But because we all live with a good deal of suspicion we can never be sure why somebody is passed over when that person is black. We yell racism even if it is not. The problem is we are suspicious that white billionaire owners are racists and balk at hiring blacks. I get sick of all this racism. What the bleep does color have to do with character or knowledge? Nothing. Just do the right thing. Enough of this.
