TOP OF THE TOWN<\/strong> \u2011 My oh my, how my expectations have changed as I have aged. My dream when I was much younger was to have a house with a zillion bedrooms and bathrooms and enough space to get lost for days if I would take a wrong turn in the house. As I aged that dream house got smaller and smaller until today I\u2019m satisfied with a four bedroom house and under 2,000 square feet of space. As you probably know, Russell Wilson has his house along the shores of Lake Washington for sale. If you got $28 million of pocket change you could purchase it. He paid $6.7 million for it five years ago so he stands to make a nice profit. It has six bedrooms and seven bathrooms and over 11,000 square feet of space. I don\u2019t get it now why superstars and people with huge amount of wealth like gigantic homes with a zillion bedrooms and bathrooms. To find your mate in such mansions you need to call them on your phone and ask directions to where they are in relation to where you are. Nah, I wouldn\u2019t want that mansion now even if I had such wealth. I remember many years ago that Sports Illustrated did a story on Penny Hardaway and the big house he lived in at Orlando, Fla. His bedroom was listed at over 7,000 square feet and he said for another story on him that he lived at one end of the house and if he shouted anybody at the other end of the house would not hear him. I have come a long way in my thinking since my young days. Now if I had any size of wealth I would make sure I shared it with others. I wouldn\u2019t need much. If I could buy a hamburger and still have $5 in my pocket that would be good enough. And don\u2019t get me started on what Putin is doing to Ukraine. His army is destroying that country and killing thousands of innocent people, men, women, children and dogs. On top of that news, Wilson is selling his house for $28 million. Doesn\u2019t seem right, does it? \u2026 I watched the Kraken lose to the hot Flames of Calgary last night (April 12). It was the first game for rookie Matty Beniers, a college star at Michigan who just signed with the Kraken. I kept my eyes on Beniers and ignored the rest and I must say I was extremely impressed. He can skate well, but it\u2019s his intelligence on ice that was remarkable. He had to be nervous playing in his first NHL game, but it didn\u2019t show. He was aggressive, skating to the right positions for a centerman, made some amazing passes and was in position time after time to make some great players if his teammates would have recognize what he was doing. That will likely take some more time for them and him to get on the same page, but once it does I think you will see what a great hockey play looks like. The Kraken, by the way, surrendered a 3-1 lead in the third period to the Flames, allowing four goals, including an empty netter. I hate hockey pulling their goalie in the waning minutes to add an extra skater to their attack because as far as I can see it almost always ends with an empty net goal. What is the sense of that? \u2026 I doubt the Seahawks will add Baker Mayfield to their quarterback room. There is too much money involved and secondly I don\u2019t believe Mayfield is that good of a quarterback. It is obvious, though, the Seahawks need to find another QB. I\u2019m not a believer in Geno Smith or Jacob Eason, Geno is a turnover waiting to happen and Easton is just a bad QB. He has a great arm. That\u2019s it. \u2026 Washington State is going to be good this next college football season. They finally have the right coach in Jake Dickert and are stocking up on a talented roster. They are my favorite to win the Pac-12 North. It\u2019s going to take a few years for the Washington Huskies to rebuild back to the power that it once was under the late Don James. First-year coach Kalen DeBoer is the right man to get it done. But it won\u2019t happen overnight. \u2026 I\u2019m happy the Los Angeles Lakers are not in the playoffs. LeBron James is not the master builder he thinks he is. And his time is running out. He\u2019s an old man playing a young man\u2019s game. The NBA is changing right before our eyes. It\u2019s becoming a young man\u2019s game. Young players are becoming the next generation of super stars and the changing of the guard will make the game much more competitive. Guys like Kevin Durant can load up one team much like what LeBron has done, but the young guns in the league are taking it over, and that makes watching the league much more enjoyable. \u2026 It\u2019s only five games into the MLB season, but I don\u2019t like the trend of the Seattle Mariners. Jerry Dipoto tried to load up offensively, but so far, and it\u2019s early, the offense has been a dud. You have to like rookie pitcher Matt Brash and if Mitch Haniger stays healthy he could have a monster year. The M\u2019s have a good manager in Scott Servais, so I\u2019m confident he will make the right moves and give his players the confidence to have success. So there is optimism. But will they make the playoffs? No, I don\u2019t think so. All the American League West teams have improved, other than Oakland, which as usual is trying to get by cheaply, so winning by the M\u2019s will be difficult. \u2026 \u00a0That\u2019s it for today.
