For the Washington Huskies it’s the secondary that needs to be toughen. Their secondary ranking in defending the pass, touchdowns allowed and third-down efficiency were all near the bottom among 130 D-1 programs. They have added an edge rusher (Zach Durfee from Sioux Falls( and a cornerback (Jabbar Muhammad from Oklahoma State) via the transfer portal and others already in the program that did not play last season for one reason or another gives the Huskies hope they have enough talent to plug the secondary holes. There is an obvious need for a third quarterback (only Michael Penix Jr. and Dylan Morris remain as the only scholarship signal-callers after Sam Huard entered the transfer Portal). There are reports Jaden Rashada, a five-star quarterback prospect from Pittsburg High School in California, has decommitted from Florida after a $13.3 million NIL pact he signed with Gator Collective was terminated. He apparently is looking toward Seattle and the Huskies, who have signed his Pittsburg teammate Rashid Williams, a four-star wide receiver. … The Seahawks need to add some “steel” to their defensive front and linebacker corps. They were pretty bad against the run this season and need a complete overhaul of the defensive front. There are two prized defensive stars in this year’s NFL draft – Will Anderson from Alabama, an edge rusher, and defensive lineman Jalen Carter from Georgia. They likely will be gone by the time the Seahawks pick at the No. 5 spot. Three other good choices would be defensive lineman Bryan Bresee from Clemson, Tyree Wilson from Texas Tech and edge rusher Myles Murphy from Clemson. Of course, the Seahawks are known for doing the unexpected, so it’s tough to guess what they will do. I’d like them to take a quarterback with one of their top two picks (they also pick in the 20th spot in the first round), but who knows if they will. Pete Carroll seems to like Drew Lock, so maybe having two on the roster and another on the practice squad is good enough for him. At any rate, this draft should be good for the Hawks and I’m pretty sure we all are anxiously waiting to see what they will do. If their choices are as good as they were in the last draft, the 12s will be overjoyed. That’s enough for today.
