June 10 ‑ Cornelius “Pete Ross”, 75, died of liver
cancer. Ross was involved in many civic activities, but the one closest to his
heart was youth sports, more specially the Silverdale Adult Pee Wee
Association. He and wife Dona Ross donated 10 acres of land in 1967 that became
known as Ross Field where thousands of athletes have competed over the years.
He and Dona contributed time and money to the pee wees since donating the land.
Ross was also a life member of Bremerton Yacht Club, was a founding member of
the Silverdale Lion and Silverdale Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the
Kitsap Golf and Country Club. His business sense led him to a life of
investment, including owning the Populars Restaurant, where he employed many
athletes over the 14 years of ownership.
