LONNIE SHARKEY

Lonnie Sharkey, at the least, should be featured in Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd. He is setting a bowling record that probably will never be matched and for two decades now has been the best amateur bowler on the Olympic Peninsula.

Just recently, Sharkey won his 112th Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association title, taking down top qualifier Curtis Messer 242-217 in the TV Finale of the Longhouse Market * Deli Open on Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles.

Sharkey, a 1973 graduate of Central Kitsap, set the Kitsap County bowling record in 2005 for a three-game series with an 879, rolling consecutive 300 games to start the series at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.

In the Lakeside Industries 205-and-under-Division , Bob Zurbrugg, the top qualifier, defeated Bill Bachteler 245-137 in the final match to earn his first title of the season.

Next up for KSBO is the Quad Swiss Tournament sponsored by Hi-Joy Bowl and Artisan Title and Mosaic that will be held Nov. 18 at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard .
