I don’t want to sound insensitive, but how stupid are the Islamic State murderers that they believe a threat against a captive and then follow that with beheading is going to deter the mightiest power on Earth from squishing them like an ugly and worthless bug. All they are doing is showing the more intelligent and sensitive and compassionate among us that there are sub-humans formed under a phony god who will do anything to torture, kill and rape and do it with glee.

They must all be destroyed and if the Iraqis and Kurds can’t do it, we must. Obama’s passive stance on this – and everything else – is one of the worse criminal acts in recent history. The man vacations and plays golf while the rest of the world burns. Is he related to Nero?

Sorry for that. But it’s true that we can’t stand by as most of the allies did when Hitler started eliminating the Jewish population and others too weak and sick to defend themselves. The Holocaust cost humanity 11 million of us, including six million Jews, a million of them children.

The ISIS (Islamic State) is based on Wahhabi, which believes anybody who is not Wahhabi is an apostate and can be killed. They also don’t believe in non-Muslim building and artifacts. The ISIS has already destroyed many historical artifacts and mausoleums.

So, to get this straight, unless you are an Islamic Wahhabi you should be killed. So why would the beheading of two captives frighten us? What is frightening is fighting them. They don’t care if they die and all the fiber in their bones is geared to the purpose of killing you (or me) by any means. So to battle them you must kill them. Don’t be captured by them. That’s certain death.

Once you grasp the severity of this, how can you not unleash all the destruction power you can on them?

Beats me, too.

There is an interesting story in the Seattle Times Sports today by Jayson Jenks, the paper’s Seahawk beat writer, on the meaning of “Grit” and how that plays into the way the team practices under coach Pete Carroll, and how Earl Thomas is, well, Earl Thomas, one of a kind.

I’m not bragging, but just explaining when I say that I think of myself as having a lot of grit. In the newspaper business I am known as a grinder, one who may not be the best writer to come down the pike (and I’m not), but is seldom beaten for persistence, determination, passion and love of writing (as Earl Thomas is to football).

There are various people in my family who are much better writers than me, including wife Mary and teen daughter, Caitlin. I have, though, a determination to search as deep as possible for the story, and a passion to get deeply lost in its telling. I can start a story and when I look up next hours have passed and it just seems like minutes.

The one negative is I’m never quite satisfied with the end result. There always seem to be something that tells me I could have done it better. Consequently, I seldom if ever read one of my stories once I have handed it off to my editor. It’s gone, and I move on to the next one.

The one fear a writer has is that he will run out of stories, especially if there is a deadline. I have that fear all the time, even though I have yet to fail with coming up with the required submission.

Thomas and the Seahawks will open the regular NFL season Thursday night at the Link against the Packers and there is a hint of doubt among the faithful. I think that is almost always the case when a genuine opponent like the Packers show up, especially considering what is now called the “Failed Hail Mary” that gave the Seahawks the victory over the Packers two years ago.

I think we will see if that “Grit” is pervasive throughout the Seahawks’ roster because the Packers behind Aaron Rodgers are a contender to make the Super Bowl. We will see if the Seahawks continue to have that secondary speed that made it the Legion of Boom or will the Packers have the smarts and Wisconsin toughness to create a Legion of Dream.

The bad part is that we don’t get to see John Fullington, North Mason’s finest, at least on the sideline in Green Bay green and gold. Fullington, an offensive lineman, failed to make the final cut to the roster of 53 and now has signed with San Francisco to its practice squad as a free agent.

I was just thinking, we should round up all the Islamic State fighters, disarm them, and send them out against the Legion of Boom. I know how that will end.

Be well pal.

Be careful out there.

Have a great day.

You are loved.
