Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton

Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action for several years while he traversed the globe looking for greener grass. He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that had been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is continuing his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Bumerton sees all

Bumerton sees all

I see where a team named IDCNMP won the Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association’s All Star Lanes Grey Chevrolet Swiss Trios Tournament. I know you don’t know what that name stands for, Big Dawg, because you don’t know anything.  What I find amusing is the team name is almost as big as the name for the tournament. Anyway, the team consisted of Don Allen, Paul Mann and Nick Bachteler. It was the first KSBO win for Allen and Mann and the second for Bachteler. Do you realize Big Dawg that this tournament has been sponsored 33 times by Grey Chevrolet and the 13th time for All Star Lanes, which is managed by Jim Monhan, one of the better bowlers in the county. We got to take the Green Hornet out to Silverdale some day and bowl a few lines. Although, maybe not. You couldn’t bowl your age. The next KSBO tournament is scheduled for Saturday (March 21) at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard. It’s the Designs Unlimited Open and the Miller Chiropractic 205-and-under division. … This year’s March Madness bracket is a lot like horse racing is to Secretariat. Big Red (Secretariat) was such an overwhelming favorite in the 1973 Triple Crown races that it took the fun out of betting. Same this year with March Madness, Big Dawg. Kentucky is such an overwhelming favorite that it takes all the joy out of betting it. Although, I bet Big Dawg that you would take Silverdale’s Fleury Financial and give points if you had any money to bet. .. Hey, Big Dawg, maybe you should try your luck at playing basketball in the Bremerton Parks and Recreation League that opens up weekday evenings’ play at Sheridan Park Gym on April 6 through June 11. You used to nail 30-foot threes at the YMCA, although to be fair there was nobody else in the gym that could verify your honesty. Registration deadline is March 24. For more information contact Scott Evens at the parks department at (360) 473-5427 or view the city Website at www.ci.bremerton.wa.us. And click on Athletics.  See you at Sheridan Big Dawg, or as it is called, The Brick Palace…
