South Kitsap’s Conner Morris made a three-second improvement in the 800 at the combined West Central/Southwest District track and field meet  to run 1:54.12 in the event. That time puts him fourth on the all-time SK record book. He sits behind LaForrest Church, who set the record of 1:51.81. in 2013, and Zach Sahlberg (1:53.27 in 2001) and Mason Villarma (1:53.44 in 2015).

The all-time Westsound record is 1:51.10 that was set in 1966 by Port Angeles’ Art Sandison. It is the oldest record on the books.

Morris, a senior, also holds the best Westsound effort this season in the 1600 at 4:24.79 and runs the anchor leg on the school’s 1600 relay team that is second in the area with a time of 3:30.97.

Port Townsend’s Seren Dances, a senior, is closing in on the all-time Westsound record in the long jump with a leap of 23-01. The record of 23-04.25 was set in 1989 by Central Kitsap’s Will Dozier.

Dances also leads the area in the two hurdle events. He has run 15 seconds in the 110s and 40.06 in the 300s.

Nolan Van Amen improved his SK school record in the shot put with a toss of 61-02.  That effort puts him third in the state behind Connor Jensen of Skyview, who beat Van Amen in the district meet with a state best throw of 61-10.25, and Mt. Spokane’s Dillon Lionello who tossed the shot 61-02.25. in April at the Pasco Invitational.

Van Amen’s effort is 42nd best in the nation. There are two throwers over 70 feet.  Adrian Piperi of Texas leads with a throw of 74-11.5 and a Pennsylvania schoolboy, Jordan Geist, has thrown the shot 74-10.25.
