TERRY MOSHER

TOP OF THE TOWN – I think the Seattle Storm is in trouble. They don’t seem to be as well balanced as last season when they won the WNBA championship. Their bench isn’t as strong and play has gotten a lot better in the league so that the Storm just can’t show up and expect to win. The big three – Sue Bird, Breanna Stewart and Jewell Loyd still play well, but the league has figured out how to slow them down, especially Stewart who has gotten out-muscled two of the last three games. Bird, who is playing at 40 years of age, which is remarkable in itself, shows signs of that age with some sloppy passing leading to turnovers. Still, the Storm, which lost Friday to the Phoenix Mercury 85-77 has qualified to play Connecticut in the Commission’s Cup with players on the winning team earning at least $30,000 each (the losers get $10,00 each and the game’s MVP picks up an additional $5,000), so that is a big deal in a league where salaries are nowhere the ones the men earn in the NBA. The game will be played Aug. 12 in Phoenix. The Storm beat Connecticut earlier (June 13) in Connecticut 89-66. Connecticut was without Jonquel Jones, who was averaging a double-double (21.6 points and 10.4 rebounds), who was in Europe to play with Bosnia and Herzegovina in EuroBasket. … I will never understand why professional players do stupid things that get them in trouble with the law. When you are making millions you would think you would stay clear of trouble. At least I would. But former Seattle Seahawk Frank Clark hasn’t learned that yet. Clark was traded to Kansas City in 2019 and he signed a $105 million contract with $62.3 of it guaranteed. Trouble has followed Clark. The latest happen when Clark was stopped the other day and police discovered he had an Uzi submachine gun with him. He was booked into a Los Angeles County jail and then released after posting a $35,000 bond. In March he was pulled over for not having a front license plate (how stupid is that?) and in the process police found he allegedly had a loaded handgun and rifle with him. So, of course, he was arrested. Clark came into the NFL in 2015 but did so on the heels of a domestic battery arrest and a guilty plea to felony home invasion in which he stole a laptop in his dorm at Michigan. … Shohei Ohtani is doing something that is amazing. The Los Angeles superstar and two-way player – pitcher and hitter ‑  belted his 33rd home runs Friday against the Mariners, blasting a pitch 463 feet into second deck in right field, a feat few have done. His homers lead all of baseball. Ohtani is worth the price of admission just to watch him swing the bat, but his pitching is awesome too. He throws 100 mph and his splitter is almost unhittable. Ohtani may be the modern Babe Ruth, who could pitch and hit too. ,,, Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier square off tonight in Las Vegas in their third UFC fight. McGregor won the first one on a TKO and Poirier won the second on a knockout. I expect Poirier to win this one. It’s on pay-per-view. … Okay, that is enough for today. Stay safe.

 Be well pal.

 Be careful out there.

 Have a great day.

 You are loved.
