Zimmerman verdict sparks outrage on social networks

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton

Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action for several years while he traversed the globe looking for greener grass. He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that has been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is ready to continue his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Hey, Big Dawg, did you just see that Zimmerman was found not guilty of murdering that kid?

I didn’t follow the trial, so I’m not an expert on this subject, but from the tweeting I see going on from the black community – especially black athletes – they range from stunned to outrage.

And one of those athletes felt the need to tweet that maybe “They” are getting even with “us” over the O.J. Simpson trial on murder.  I wonder, Big Dawg, who is “They” and who is “us.” I mean I get it, but this is supposed to be a democratic society where men and women of all shades are free. Color, or the lack thereof, should not dictate results, should they?

This trial took on the element of sensationalism with the national media, and my thought is that it’s all about money. Those cable shows that hammered away on the case stayed on the air because “we” bought into the advertisements that kept them on the air. I mean, I didn’t watch one second of all that garbage. But millions of “us” must have, or the show would have been taken off the air.

Whether Zimmerman is truly innocent or not should not divide “us.” We are one nation under God, and God does not take sides based on color. When a trial such as this comes down to one side winning and one side losing, “we” all lose. Maybe some day, well after I’m probably dead Big Dawg, color will not be an issue and true love will be supreme. At least, I hope so … You just got a report, Big Dawg, on the  Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Organization’s last tournament of the 2012-13 bowling season, and it was held April 13 at All Star Lanes in Silverdale. Don’t know the hold up, but the Tony’s Restaurant Open Division was won by Tim Clemens, who earned his 11th KSBO title by stopping Mike VanWinkle, 216-206 in the final match.  Stuart McMaster, who beat Oliver Carr, 199-178 in the championship match, wore the George Shafer Memorial 205-and-under division crown. Thanks to Alison Eoff for providing the results over the season, and many seasons before. She notes that Gabby Galbraith won the first grand finals tournament that was held June 2, 1974. The 2013-14 KSBO season opens Sept. 21 at Hi-Joy Bowl in Port Orchard. … Other belated news is Klahowya finished third in the lacrosse Olympic League and won their first playoff game 13-10 over Shorecrest before losing to a tough defensive-minded Sehome squad, 16—3 in the second round. Klahowya senior Cody Roberts finished third, Joe Hawley fifth, Elliott James eight, Ben Zimny 10th and Austin Keller 17th in OL scoring. Hawley and Roberts were named to the All-OL first team. Hawley, Keller and James were all freshmen. Keller had 35 ground balls, fourth in the OL, and tops for all freshmen. Now go get me a tall latte, Big Dawg.
