Malala Yousafzai sets an example for all of us

Bumming around town with Bill Bumerton

Bumerton is a retired Navy fighter pilot who had been missing in action for several years while he traversed the globe looking for greener grass. He discovered the grass is only greener here (it’s blue in Kentucky), so he returned to again take charge of his 1954 green Hudson Hornet that has been in storage, refilled his pipe, and is ready to continue his smokin’ ways. Here is what he recently told us at the Sports Paper.

Big Dawg, I wish I was stronger and could stand up to the world as Malala Yousafzai has and announce in a strong voice my convictions, even if they go against a big pile of the world. She should be nominated for a peace prize. She is awesome, Big Dawg. Her speech before the United Nations was very impressive. Now there’ a senior Pakistani Taliban commander who has sent a letter to her recommending she come back to Pakistani and give up her “Western Ways” and become shackled like most of the women in Islamic countries. Yeah, right. She goes back they will shoot her again, and this time they will likely do it right.

I’m ashamed sometimes of the human species. Some of them don’t seem very human. To wrap oneself in the spirit of a religion that demeans women, and demands non-believers have their heads cut off, shows how inhuman they are. I pray, Big Dawg, that God blesses Yousafzai and hold her in His arms for safety purposes. She is a remarkable young woman. And a great human being.
