Olympic High School’s  Zach Smith also broke a West Sound All-Time track and field record this season. That was overlooked when the Kitsap Sun Friday wrote about all the records that were shattered this year in an amazing year for local track and field athletes.

Smith ran a 21.6 at the state 2A meet, finishing third by just a hair in a tight race among the top three spots. That time tied the all-time record set in 1978 by Bremerton’s Jerome Walker. But because Walker’s time was hand held, the conversion time for Walker’s run to a FAT time like Smith’s is 21.9.

Smith, a junior, was just behind senior Andrew Brown of Tumwater, who won at state in 21.49, and junior Jonathan Green of Ephrata, who took second in the same time as Smith.
