South Kitsap’s Nolan Van Amen and Central Kitsap’s Cameron Carroll top the state in their respective events in the 2016 high school track and field season.

Van Amen, a junior, has tossed the shot put 57 feet and five inches. He also leads all Olympic Peninsula throwers in the discus with a throw of 158-06.

Last year, Van Amen became a state 4A champion in both the shot put and discus. He won the state shot put with a throw of 57-09.25 and the discus at 165-0.

Carroll, a senior, has run the 800 in 1:54.0. He also tops all Olympic Peninsula runners in the 1600 with a clocking of 4:18.5.

Last year at 3A state, Carroll finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:53.81 and ran ninth in the 1600 with a 4:20.51 time.

Jaleel Elmore of Olympic High School, Oscar Herrera of Sequim and Albert MacArthur of South Kitsap are all double leaders in the Olympic Peninsula. Emore tops the 200 and 400 runners, Herrera is first in the 110 and 300 hurdles an MacArthur leads in the long jump and triple jump.

Bainbridge sophomore Taylee Undem leads the girls in two events, the 100 (12.75) and the long jump (17-07).

Van Amen and MacArthur were coming this weekend at the Arcadia Invitational in California. Van Amen competed in the shot put and discus and MacArthur in the triple jump.
