Brian Irwin had to hold off a hard-charging Jeremy Ellis to notch his first Kitsap Scratch Bowlers Association title when he stopped Ellis in the championship  match of the A&C Sports Bar Open, 184-161 at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.

Ellis qualified fifth and then got on a roll. He defeated Matt Surina 246-213, Mike Hansen 244-176 and Tom Jamrog 224-143, averaging 2238 in the three games. But he ran out of steam against Irwin, who bowled 278, 256, 238, 227, 268 in qualifying games for a five-game total of 1267, which is 12th all-time for qualifying scores in KSB competition. That averages out to a 253.4.

In the George Shafer 205-and-Under Division, Tyler Hogstrom earned his first KSBO title by stopping Josh Alewine 178-163 in the championship match.

The next KSBO Tournament is set for Nov. 5 at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles. It is the Longhouse Market & Deli open and the 205-and-Under Division is sponsored by Lakeside Industries.
