ELTON GOODWIN

The 4th Annual Elton Goodwin Memorial Foundation Fall Dinner & Charity Gala will be held Nov. 4 at McCormick Woods from 7-11 p.m. It is one of three events the non-profit foundation holds. The others are Tribute to Our Troops Baseball Game at Cheyney Stadium in Tacoma in April and the June golf tournament.

Cost for the dinner, which will include NW Indian Salmon, baron of Beer, roasted potatoes, steamed vegetables, mixed greens, fruit salad, fresh baked rolls, coffee and tea and a no-host bar, is $50 for advance tickets and $60 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased through www.eventbee.com or by calling 360-874-2929.

According to Sharon Goodwin, secretary of the foundation, the dinner at McCormick Woods “is held to remember and celebrate Elton’s lifetime achievements as a baseball coach (three state championships) and Transition Teacher and is probably our most personal event.  These fundraisers enable us to further our goals of providing 3 $1000 scholarships (baseball, fastpitch softball P, and Transition Students) each year to graduating South Kitsap High School seniors; provide 4 $500 grants to each of three local Little Leagues and SK Special Olympics; and make whatever improvements we can to the SK baseball and softball fields.

“To date, we’ve purchase new scoreboards for Elton Goodwin Field and Lady Wolves Field (through donations from Kitsap Athletic Round Table); added 160 yards of crushed gravel to the bleacher areas bordered by 300 feet of concrete curbing; and installed 400 feet of new split rail cedar fencing.

“These projects have all been accomplished in part with the help and support of Harness Construction, Kitsap Reclamation Material, and Port Orchard Sand & Gravel.

“They are all phases leading up to the completion of the Golden Gardens honoring our state and national champion athletes, coaches, bands, cheer and drill squads from the past and in the future.

“Our on-going fundraiser for all is the sale of bricks to be placed in the Garden Pathways.  For more information on bricks please go to www.thatsmybrick.com/EG29 or for any questions on any of our goals call 360-874-2929 or follow us on Facebook under the Elton Goodwin Memorial Foundation.”

Love ya man.
