NOLAN VAN AMEN

South Kitsap junior Nolan Van Amen broke a 46-year-old school record in the shot put at the first day of the West Central –Southwest District Track and Field Meet held at French Field in Kent Meridian High School.

Van Amen heaved the shot 59 feet, 10 and one-half inches to win the event and break the record of 59-04.25 that the late Gene Daunais set back in 1970. Daunais was only about five-foot-nine, but got tremendous explosion from his quickness upon release.

The throw by Van Amen is the second best in the state behind the 61-10 throw that Jose Padilla, a senior at Chelan, produced at the Caribou Trail League Meet last week.
