Experts favor Michigan over Washington for national football title

TERRY MOSHER

TOP OF THE TOWN ‑There is not anybody other than die-hard Husky fans that expect Washington to beat Michigan in the NCAA Football Championship game on Monday (Jan. 8). One college football expert said on a TV sports shock jock show that Washington is a perfect fit for a Michigan defense that can be suffocating.

The Wolverines battered Alabama for much of the semifinal game and then in overtime gave the ball to its star running back, Blake Corum and on two plays the powerful back with speed, quickness and toughness scored the winning touchdown in two smash mouth plays from 25 yards out.

If Washington were to beat Michigan it would be a momentous upset, stunning in nature. The Wolverines use a powerful running game as its major weapon, and has a good passing quarterback in J.J. McCarty as a counterbalance to their running game to remain unbeaten and unbowed in thinking they are so good they can whip the butts of anybody and walk away with a big smirk,

There is confidence, super confidence and an ego as big as the moon. That is Michigan. That is coach Jim Harbaugh.

To compete and stay within shouting distance, the Huskies must protect Michael Penix Jr., the best college passing quarterback in America, and take advantage of the only Michigan weakness, its secondary. That is easier said than done, however.

So the big showdown is arriving on the college football national stage as the Huskies hope they can add their third national championship and the Wolverines are looking for  their 10th.. The early odds favor Michigan by 4.5 points.

That’s it for today. Stay safe.

Be well pal.

Be careful out there.

Have a great day.

You are loved.
